2/12/17: Same Drugs - Chance The Rapper

ARIGO MUSIC'S DAILY SONG SUGGESTION

Who needs Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora? Well we all do, but here's OUR song suggestion of the day:

SAME DRUGS - CHANCE THE RAPPER

Independent artist, Chance the Rapper released the music video (above) for "Same Drugs" this past week and he's a favorite to bring home at least a little hardware from the GRAMMYs tonight. This song comes from his Grammy nominated album, Coloring Book, which appears at number three on our Best Albums of 2016, and is our highest ranked rap album. In "Same Drugs," Chance is actually not rapping about drugs, but about growing up and realizing the differences and separation between him and his old childhood friend, making allusions to Peter Pan and the movie Hook with lines like "Wendy, you've aged/ I thought you'd never grow up/ I thought you'd never/ Window closed, Wendy got old" and:

"Don't forget the happy thoughts
All you need is happy thoughts
The past tense, past bed time
Way back then when everything we read was real
And everything we said rhymed
Wide eyed kids being kids
Why did you stop?
What did you do to your hair?
Where did you go to end up right back here?
When did you start to forget how to fly?"

The music video, directed by Jake Schreier features extra vocals from some artists who are not included on the album version, specifically Eryn Allen Kane, Yebba, John Legend, Francis Starlite and Macie Stewart. The lyrics and references made by Chance on this song and the entire album make him a stand out artist, who we are pulling for tonight. Good luck, Lil Chano from the 79th.
