4/25/18: Saw You In A Dream - The Japanese House

ARIGO MUSIC'S DAILY SONG SUGGESTION

Who needs Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora? Well we all do, but here's OUR song suggestion of the day:

"Saw You In a Dream" - The Japanese House

This song and its music video feel like a dream. Amber Bain, aka The Japanese House, soothes the listener with hypnotic synthesized vocals of simple lyrics over a relaxed beat and soft paradisiacal electric guitar strums. The music video appears to be filmed by one camera in one continuous take, similar to a stream of consciousness (or dream). With the help of several dancers, it incorporates themes of dark, night, light, sunrise, waking up, film, androgyny, and romance.

Imogen Heap immediately comes to mind when listening to The Japanese House as Bain's voice, usually synthesized in some fashion, could potentially be mistaken for a man's, and her music dips its toes in several genres including indie, alternative, electronica, and pop.

Hailing from Buckinghamshire, she has toured with fellow Brits, The 1975, and produces a good deal of her music with the help of their drummer, George Daniel. The name "The Japanese House" comes from the name of Kate Winslet's former cottage, which Bain stayed in for a week as a child. During the trip, she posed as a boy, an experience that stuck with her so much she decided to use the androgynous moniker for her musical work.
